John and I have a great teacher!
Well so far I have not seen a social studies lesson yet. I did a math assessment today, and that was a little crazy. I was surprised my kids were getting assessed on some of the things they were. None of the kids I had in my group knew a lot of the answers. It was almost as if they have never seen that stuff before. I could see it on their faces that they had no idea what they were doing, and the ones who thought they had an idea, were wrong. I kind of felt bad for them. I just wanted to help them out and knew I couldnt. We then did a science lesson today about the differences between salt and sugar and how you could find these differences. They got to taste the salt and sugar, and their faces were priceless when they licked the salt. I died laughing. Then they ate the sugar like wild animals. It was so cute. I have a great class and a wonderful teacher. She is so laid back and easy to talk to. I am glad John and I got her as our CT. I hope we get to see some social studies lessons next Wed. I have a feeling she does soc. stud. on the days we are not there. I need to talk to her about that.

Maggie and I don't really see a "Social Studies Lesson" either however; Our teacher incorporates it in many other aspects. There are S.S. big books in hanging around in her classroom and her math lesson yesterday was on money. It included whose face was on the money, who they were, what they did, and things like that. I guess sometimes you just have to look for it.
You and your partner seem to be in the same boat as my partner and me. We have yet to see a social studies lesson be taught and we won't and neither will the students until we teach our unit. I know exactly what you mean when you say that you felt sorry for the kids and just wanted to help them out because I was there several times last semester and I just had to pull myself away and tell myself that I could not help them too much because I was learning myself what they needed exta help with so I could be of better use to them in the future. I am very happy for you that you enjoy your class and your teacher :)
Well this was only my second day in the classroom, so it is understandable that we have not seen very much yet. We have seen two science lessons and two math lessons, so I cant wait to see the social studies lessons. Yeah, I feel you when you say you are learning yourself what they needed extra help with. I am not sure if it was the teacher who did not prepare them well enough, or if the test really was too hard for them. Either way, it still broke my heart to see the look on some of their faces when they didnt understand it.
